CYBER-PHYSICAL SYSTEMS
MOTIVATION:
Cyber-physical systems (CPS) tightly couple software, networks, and physical processes. Unlike traditional IT systems, failures or attacks propagate into the physical world and affect safety, stability, and real-world assets.
KEY PROBLEM:
Purely cyber IDS solutions:
- miss physics-based anomalies
- struggle with novel attacks
- are brittle when deployed on resource-constrained platforms
Purely model-based solutions:
- rely on accurate plant models
- struggle under unmodeled disturbance and noise
We bridge the gap by combining control-theoretic residuals with data-driven anomaly detection, forming a hybrid CPS-aware intrusion detection framework.
CORE RESEARCH QUESTION:
How can we detect malicious or unsafe behavior in a cyber-physical system by jointly analyzing cyber signals and physical dynamics in real time and on embedded hardware?
SYSTEM MODEL:
Cyber domain and physical domain integration.
